Giuseppe Lauria

Giuseppe LauriaDr. Giuseppe Lauria is Head of the Neuroalgology and Headache Unit, and Skin Biopsy, Peripheral Nerve, and Neuropathic Pain Centreat the IRCCS Foundation “Carlo Besta” Neurological Institute of Milan, Italy. He received the degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padova and trained as resident in Neurology at the University of Ferrara where he is currently non-tenured professor. In 1997, he attended as visiting scientist the Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USAand in 2001 the Electromyography and Motor Control Unit atUniversity of Barcelona, Spain. He has been member of the Board of Directors of the Peripheral Nerve Society (2007-2011) and of the Italian Peripheral Nerve Association (2004-2012).In 2009, he has been member of the NeuroDiab board for the revision of the Guidelines in the Diagnosis of Diabetic Neuropathy and of the American Academy of Neurology board for the revision of the Practice Parameters for the evaluation of polyneuropathies. In 2011, he has become Associate Editor of The Journal of the Peripheral Nervous System. Dr. Lauria has pioneered the use of skin biopsy in peripheral neuropathies and neuropathic pain syndromes, and has coordinated the guidelines for clinical practice published under the auspices of the Peripheral Nerve Society and European Federation of the Neurological Societies.
