Stefano Carlo Previtali

Stefano Carlo PrevitaliGraduated in Medicine at the University of Milan in 1990, Residency in Neurology in 1990-94; Phd in Neurological Sciences in 1997. Between 1995-97 at the University of Wurzburg, Germany, investigating the role of integrins in the pathogenesis of encephalomyelitis and neuritis in animal models. Postdoc in molecular biology (1998-2001) at Dibit, Milan, studying the role of laminins and laminin-receptors in the development of peripheral nerve and pathogenesis on neuropathies associated to congenital muscular dystrophy; generation of transgenic mouse models of hereditary neuropathy. Between 2001-07, Staff scientist at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute investigating the role of extracellular matrix, adhesive receptors and cytoskeleton in the pathogenesis of axonal neuropathies and nerve regeneration in human samples and transgenic animal models. Since 2008, head of neuromuscular repair laboratory, investigating the role of laminin-derived pathways in peripheral nerve development and pathology. Since 2001 responsible for the muscle biopsy service and the outpatients’ clinic for myopathies and hereditary neuropathies at the San Raffaele Hospital. Since 2010 responsible for neurological aspects and neuropathology of the phase1/2 trial of cell therapy in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  Since 2002 non-tenured professor at the University San Raffaele Vita-Salute.
